I have known the author and his wife and kids for about 30 years, give or take. To read the first hand account of Bill’s experience while doing his tour in Nam is powerfully sad. His ability to relate things so clearly made me feel a measure of sadness and pain for those whom he wrote of especially him as I know him personally. It’s something that he is home with his family but the nightmare of the reality is never really far off. Well written. My book came to me just after he finished it, as a gift. Thank you for sharing your story.
Hammond’s Marine Corps Vietnam experience is a close look at what combat in Vietnam looked like. It’s survival on a second by second time table against all odds. He portrays that life in vivid details physically, mentally, and emotionally. Semper Fi.
I felt as though I was there with him! It was a picture of the war not seen by me, and I was well aware of the times. But, no one talked about it then. My brother in law was there and he never speaks of it. Bill’s story put us right next to him. It is a very sad story and terrifying to read, but yet he didn’t make it as gory as Hollywood has. But the picture he paints is good enough to really place yourself there, in the middle of that hell.
Well done and so sad. Many know him, I know him through friends and I would never have realized that he went through this horror and came out on top.
I’m glad I read it, but I can’t read it again, too tragic!
I thank him for sharing his story for him and others who went through this terrible war!
